Four Years Ago…

Four years ago today I purchased my first home (after my divorce). It was one of those defining moments in life. I mean, even though I was the one that filed for divorce, being a single parent was not something I was really prepared for. And since I had been a stay at home mom for 8 years, I had NO idea whatI was going to do or how I was going to make it work.

But life is funny and things always have a way of working out. I’ve gone to work for a great company, bought a house and car, traveled abroad, and provide a loving home for my kids.  And while it may not be the life I thought I’d have, it’s turned out to be a blessing that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Life truly is what you make it.

Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story

While I’m not a crazy fan of the Harry Potter series, I’m sure JK Rowlings life story is impressive to hear/see. Lifetime Television will be airing her story starting Monday, July 18th.

My kids have been fans of the books and movies since day one. Dalton went to the midnight showing of the final movie last night as it opened in theaters and had a Harry Potter – a – thon for the last three evenings with friends. Crazy kids.

“Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story” dramatizes the British author’s struggle to bring the beloved wizard fantasy of Harry Potter to life. Starting out as a single mother on welfare, she becomes one of the world’s wealthiest women, with more than 400 million copies of her visionary books sold across the globe, resulting in a billion-dollar film franchise. The film is an inspiring look at a woman’s rise to become one of the most influential writers ever — from her humble beginnings as an imaginative young girl and awkward teenager to the devastating loss of her mother and the genesis of the Harry Potter phenomenon in her early twenties. The rags-to-riches tale also follows Rowling’s tumultuous first marriage, becoming a mother, her divorce and the dark days of living on government assistance while publisher after publisher passed on her first novel … before it became an international best-seller and established Rowling’s rightful place in literary and cultural history.

Hannah & Olivia’s Challenge

I just love these girls! They’re funny, and quirky and just seem like all around good people. Since winning The Biggest Loser (they finished 1st and 2nd) they’ve started a blog and they’re both just so open to sharing as much as they can about what they learned while on the ranch.

Watch the video below and be sure and sign up for their ‘sports bra challenge’!!

Music Monday – Free Music Download

I might have to think about doing a Music Monday…I run across free music downloads quite often. This morning Big Machine Records has a free download for Martina McBride’s new single One Time. Just share the link on your website or favorite social network site.

Candy, Candy And More Candy

Isn’t it funny how you can grow up in a town, know it like the back of your hand, yet 40 years later discover something new you knew was there all along.

Today Dalton wanted to go to the Palmer Candy Shoppe. Now Palmer Candy is a locally owned candy company – that is known worldwide. I designed and maintain their company website. But I hadn’t actually been to the candy shoppe. I always deal with the folks at the headquarter offices. And while I know what they make and sell I can’t tell you my surprise over the candy shoppe.

From the moment you walk in you know it’s someplace special. You see an old time mixer and employees are close by to welcome you. Once inside it’s clean and inviting and while you walk around looking at the rows of fresh candies you see that the employees are actually there to scoop and weigh the candy for you! There are chocolate candies, gummy candies, hard candies, suckers, jaw breakers, fudge and sugar free candies. Any kind of candy you might be hungry for, they have.

The employees were integrated seamlessly into the environment. They were observant yet ready to help when candy needed bagged. It was just like stepping back in time yet it was modern time. Just indescribable.

Hard to believe it’s been here forever. I’ve known about Palmer Candy all my life, yet visiting the shoppe today was a fantastic experience.
